Didgeridoo Circular Breathing

Didgeridoo Buyers Guide

What is a Didgeridoo?

Didgeridoo Breath, our online store

Rhythm

dar (B) dee (B)…

Lesson goals

  • Be able to play this rhythm continuously for 1 minute while taking circular breaths
  • Be able to balance your breathing in and blowing out, keeping a comfortable lungful of air
  • Keep the timing of your rhythm consistent
  • Clearly hear the difference between the “dar” and “dee” sounds

Training tips

  • When you see (B), this means take a circular breath
  • When we say “breath”, this means take a circular breath
  • The letter “d” will briefly stop the air coming out which may stop your drone. This may be frustrating, but keep practicing, it will get easier. Just pronounce the “dar” and “dee” softly to start with
  • When you first start practicing this rhythm, don’t worry about the quality of your sound, just work on getting the timing of your breaths right
  • It doesn’t matter if your breathing doesn’t sound good, this is a great exercise to strengthen your circular breathing
  • Experiment with the speed of your rhythm
  • Make sure you don’t miss any breaths. It’s important to take small regular breaths to keep your lungs full
  • Remember, use as little air as you can. You don’t need to BLOW down the didgeridoo – gentle, gentle, gentle
