We built the Dojo because so many didgeridoo players and beginners struggle because of lack of access to good quality training and in-person lessons.

The goal of Didge Dojo is to provide the closest thing to a one on one experience as possible!

With comprehensive video lessons ranging from beginner techniques like making the drone sound and circular breathing to advanced techniques like didgeridoo beatboxing presented by the hilarious Nathan Kaye, Didgeridoo Dojo has something for everyone!

Lesson overview

This is a clever little tongue technique that works on stopping the drone briefly. It is great for creating punchy fast rhythms. This lessons shows you the technique and also a funky rhythm to practice it

Lesson goals

  • Be able to pronounce the “widt” tongue movement to stop the drone while playing
  • Play the rhythm “widt da (B) widt-da (B)…”
  • Speed up this rhythm

Training tips

  • It’s the tongue coming all the way forward to block the air flow that stops the drone
  • The pause in the drone is a great effect when played both slow and fast
  • Try to get a nice clean start to the drone again after the “widt”
  • This rhythm sounds very cool when played fast. Keep increasing your speed to see how fast you can play this rhythm. Remember to keep it controlled with a clear sound
  • Once comfortable with the base rhythm, try and substitute in your favourite sounds to spice it up
